Adventures in Preschool

OK So this is new to me. We have had a horrible week at daycare and it is only Wednesday. Well I guess Corbin got kicked out or dismissed but I think that really they were kicking me out. In his room that has 18 to 24 month children they had one teacher. The rules say 9 kids to one teacher for that age. Also in the past two weeks there have been some incidents were Corbin was playing too hard and he hurt a girl. Then Corbin bruised another child. They were trying tell me that Corbin is aggressive but he has been to multiple events with many children and we see no aggression. Plus he is very kind to Caura all the time. They complained that he doesn't listen and that he plays too rough. On Thursday he was in the office for 45 min. Then the teacher went on to tell me how overwhelmed she is with 12 kids by herself and she made all these excuses of why she cant watch them adequately. Then on Friday he was in time out 7 times and for one time thy wrote down that he was in time out for 5 min. I called them Monday at lunch and asked how he was doing and was told that he was having a great day by one teacher, I was going to go by and see him and then have Chris pick him up at 2 of he was having a bad day. When I picked him up another teacher said he was in time out 10 times and for 10 min one time. I was very upset both days and told them that it was illegal to put him in time out for more then 2 min at a time and that if he is in time out that many times than it is not effective and we need to try some other things. I told them that of they were obeying licensing and having less children or more teachers then they could address the problems better. I have been paying 1,000 a month for daycare and they needed to follow the rules. The owner told me that he could finish out the week and I said OH NO I will come get them now. I was so frustrated because they are the ones not creating a good environment and then when a child need ANY attention they want to make a big deal. Also they would say things like 'you have got to get Corbin under control' and I was like so confused because he does not act the way they describe him at home or anywhere else. I told then that they were the problem and when they suggested that he can not come back and that another center may be better for him I was like 'what can another center do that you are not willing to do?'. They also said he may need to MATURE more before he come to a center again. Like how mature is a 2 year old supposed to be. I have taken him to doctor and he said that Corbin is good and does not have any problems that are abnormal. He is TWO and he does act like it. We are looking for an individual to come to the home 3 or 4 days a week and watch them. On the other days they can stay with Chris and he can take them to the YMCA when he goes to work out. We can even get them into Gymnastics or Swimming classes. I think this really is a good thing. I have been wanting to keep them home for a few months, I guess I needed this push to get out an do it. Although if my sister were here, Aunt LuLu, she could care for them better then anyone! (No Pressure Laura, I only named my only daughter after you) I feel so relieved that this is over and i have my little angles at where I can keep them safe. I feel like hugging Corbin and saying "you will never be in time out again" but I know that he is two and he can't do all that he wants when he wants. This struggle is so horrible because I want to give them everything and keep them as happy as they can stand but I do not want them to be 'spoiled' or as my Grandma Alice said 'the kind of child that only I have fun around'. Let me assure you he is not that kind child YET. He is fun and loving and FUN!

Corbin's Birthday Bash

Corbin turned two yesterday and we really celebrated! Corbin and Caura got up at 5 am in anticipation of the big day. At 7:30 the bounce house arrived. The fun did not stop from then on. We had Roslyn, Charles, and Craig bring by a gift and play from 10 to 2. Grandma and Grandpa got here at 1 and then the fun was turned up a degree. Grandpa was the first person to feed Corbin two years ago and it has passed so quickly. Maybe that is why Grandpa is Corbin's favorite person! Soon after Grandma and Grandpa got here Great Grandparents and Aunt Pam came in. Later came Grandma June, Aunt Brenda, Jennifer, Kayla, and Malachi. They came from Denton to help us celebrate. Around 4 our friends Kari and Ethan, then Monica, Juan, and 2 month old Rebbecca came. Rebbecca may have been the only one not to bounce!!! We ate hot dogs and then cake. Even as our guests left the fun kept on going. Corbin, Chris, and even Caura bounced some more. Corbin made it through the day with only one tiny nap and so by evening he was barely able to climb on to the slide in the bounce house. Corbin was a trooper and he partied and jumped until eight o'clock when he crashed in the couch.

Corbin is AMAZING and I can not imagine our lives with out our little cowboy. Two years ago we were 'first time parents' at the hospital. The nurses were helping us and teaching us and all we could do was adore our beautiful boy. We spent weeks just amazed that this was OUR baby and the little fluttering life that was growing in me was now here and we could hold him, feed him, and play with him. Now I have a fast paced two year old who right now is saying "come on mama come on, watch Elmo's world".
